To avoid decompression sickness, a diver who conducts diving operations must control his diving time on the basis of the decompression table. In this respect, a diver's watch plays an important role. The rotary bezel, which is peculiar to the diver's watch, was born under such circumstances. Some rotary bezels carry even a table of no-decompression time limits. In an attempt to make it multifunctional, a diver's watch with a depth meter has been developed. The newly developed one is equipped with a depth meter comprising a semiconductor pressure sensor. Compared with conventional depth meters, the new model has been proved to have improved accuracy and additional useful functions. Recently, it became popular in the sport diving to measure the diving time with a water-pressurd operated stopwatch and to make measurements of surface intervals and frequency of diving. Furthermore, there is a specific time keeping device being developed and marketed for diVers, which indicate by means of a built-in computer the decompression data based on the paramdters of the diving depth and diving time. In such a manner, time keeping devices used for sports diving or diving operations are differentiating into various types such as diver's watches, water proof stopwatches operated by water pressures, and decompression data indicators.
