Various schemes of classification have been studied on the problem of pattern recognition. However the noise of character has not been well investigated. The noise of character caused by positional translation is called "translation-noise" in this paper. In practice the occurrence of this noise is most frequent ln the character Reading, and this noise occupies the largest part of noise.Therefore statistical properties of this noise is most important. We consider each character as a vector in a 11×15 dimensional space, and project it on the N dimensional space; a set of the expansion coefficients stands for a Character.This set is regarded as a sample set taken from some population, As results of various kinds of hypothesis testing about the set, the distribution of the coefficients of the translation-noise vector is shown to be Gaussian, if the character is properly normalized.
