The mathematical simulation of flood flows occurred in river channels and overlands is reported. The methodological procedure of simulation consists of a set of two flow systems, the first of which is the one-dimensional flood flow in river channels, making use of the de Saint Venant equation and the second the two-dimensional flood flow in overlands, using east- and north-ward equations of linear momentum simultaneously. A variety of flood flow problems gives three kinds of mathematical simulations : One-dimensional flow, two-dimensional flow and a combination of one- and two-dimensional flows. Three case studies show hydraulic characteristics of flood flow invasions in the flood-prone areas. The methodological procedure developed in this paper will provide a basic contribution to flood disaster engineering.
