A simple mathematical model stimulating the bioconversion processing of pristane to pristanol was developed on the basis of the following two assumptions : the process consists primarily of three consecutive reaction steps, i.e., pristane→pristanol→pristanic acid→cells, and the lag mechanism inferred from experimental results is involved. Employing a constrained Simplex method, six parameters in the model equations were estimated to simulate experimental data. Calculated data with the model and parameter values showed good agreement with several experimental time courses with different initial conditions and several characteristics of this process were simulated well. And it was also noticed that the specific oxidation rate of each consecutive reaction step could be assumed to be constant irrespective of the substrate concentration in simulating the early stage of the batch cultivation.
