A model is presented for the leaching of natural chalcopyrite(CuFeS_2)which takes account of both chemical and microbial action. Using independent kinetic experiments to determine the kinetic constants of the model, and analog computer simulation, experimental leaching data have been compared with the predicted behavior.The good agreement which has been achieved over 20〜30hr leaching suggests that the model can successfully predict the underlying reaction kinetics, while it is probable that the deviations which occur over 300〜400 hr are indicative of physical changes in the system(e.g.increased diffusional resistance, surface effects, ferric and sulphur precipitation).
