As an approach to the explanation of mechaism of development of acute nephritis and its transformation to chronic nephritis, the author inoculated group A type 12 streptococci isolated from acute nephritic patients' throat who were admitted to Maekawa's Clinic, injected bacterial filtrate intraperitoneally into mice, and the author obtained the following results. 1) The group of rabbits subcutaneously injected ; in the group, though albuminuria and slight rise of blood pressure were recognized, hematuria did not appear. Histologically in one case out of the three of this group, turbid swelling was observed but in the remaining two cases no change was found. 2) The group of rabbits serially injected bacterial broth into sterilized abscess caused by Kaolin ; in this group though albuminuria was recognized in all cases, except the two cases which died during the experiment, the albuminuria of the remaining 6 cases appeared only temporarily, and the cases in which blood pressure rose counted only two, while the remaining four showed no change in this respect. Hitologically, no change was found in four cases, while slight hyalin degeneration of glomeruli was recognized in two cases. In one case died during the experiment, swelling of glomeruli, mutual adhesion of glomerular tufts, enlargement of Bowman's capsule, presence of albumin-like substance within Bowman's capsular spaces, turbid swelling and epithelial defoliation of proximal convoluted tubuli, filling of lumina with albumin-like substance were recognized, thus showing the nephritic figure. And in the last case, presence of albumin-like substance in Bowman's capsule and conspicuous hydropic degeneration of lower nephron were recognized, which indicated to be lower nephron nephrosis. 3) The group of intravenous injection of vaccine ; in this group no change was found. 4) The group of serial injection of filtrate of bacterial broth into peritoneum of mice ; strains used in this group are group A type 1 2 standard strain, Ohashi's strain, Hashimoto's strain and Shigehata's strain of group A type 12 streptococci all isolated from nephritic patients, and Onishi's strain of group A un-identifiable type streptococci isolated from nephritic patients. In three cases out of four in which Onishi's strain was used, slight inflammatory picture Of glomeruli and slight de-generative picture of proximal convoluted tubuli were found only, while in the other cases no change was observed.
