The pressure gradients through surgical gowns and drapes which are casued by actual movement during surgical operation were studied. It became obvious that they are not higher than 10mm H_2O. Air permeabilities and filtration efficiencies of various fabrics wre examined at lower pressure gradients than 10mm H_2O. Some of nonwoven fabrics have both preperties of good air penetration and higher filtration efficiency. Standadized test methods are required to evaluate those materials in order to develop clinically effective and useful gowns and drapes.
