The strength anisotropy is confirmed by compression test for specimens prepared along directions of 0,45 and 90 degrees with respect to the drawing direction. The influence of annealing on such anisotropic strength was also examined. To make clear the origin of the strength anisotropy, the residual phase stresses in the ferrite matrix of deformed pearlite steel were measured by neutron diffraction. As results, the residual stress in the ferrite matrix balanced with those in cementite is concluded to cause the strength anisotropy.
