An experimental study on homogeneous charge compression ignition engine for the mixture of dimethyl ether (DME), carbon dioxide and water with air has been performed to investigate the onset conditions of cool and hot flames as well as characteristics of both flames by heat release analysis over the several intake temperatures. The addition of carbon dioxide and water which are the main components of exhaust gas has been made separately to see whether it changes those properties as onset points, available range of equivalence ratio and heat release rate. The results showed that addition of these components had the possibility of extension of operating range and mitigation of explosive combustion.
