The feature of premixed combustion applied with corona discharge or uniform electric field was investigated by using a constant volume vessel with homogeneous propane-air mixture of equivalence ratio from 0.7 to 1.5 [-]. The maximum combustion pressure and burning period were analyzed from combustion pressure records and flame front behavior was observed in order to clarify an influence of input voltage on the combustion characteristics. In both applying corona discharge and applying uniform electric field, the flame propagation velocity becomes fast as the input voltage increases, and the turbulence appears on flame front when the corona discharge is applied. The burning period is shortened by the brush corona discharge, as compared with that of applying the uniform electric field. Particularly, when the brush corona occurs and the rich mixture is provided, the combustion is significantly improved because of intermediate products generated by incomplete combustion and the photoionization.
