The Coulomb force, which is one of the basic physical forces, is applied to separate droplets from a mist flow in this paper. For the proposed cylindrical separator with a stainless tube as a positive pole and a copper wire as a negative pole, it has been confirmed from the several experiments that this method particularly has an effect for separating droplets with the small diameter of equal to or less than 15 μm. This study is of dealing with a theoretical analysis to obtain the behavior of a droplet existing between two electric poles. Using the basic equations of motion for a droplet and the distribution of electric field intensity, the behavior of a droplet flowing in the separator is made clear. Consequently, appropriate length and diameter of the cylindrical separator by the Coulomb force can be estimated in this paper.
