This study investigates changes of flow pattern of the horse-shoe vortex system due to a geometrical shape (h/d; h is a height, and d is a diameter of obstacle), quantitatively, by carrying out a frequency analysis for flows in front and rear of an obstacle. Experiments were carried out by flow visualization and PIV for flow around the obstacle mounted on a flat plate in a water channel. Especially, PIV systems were set up so as to be able to measure velocities of flows in front and rear of the obstacle, simultaneously. Also, to examine differences of flow generated by h/d, two types (h/d=0. 5 and 2. 0) of prisms were used. As a result, there were clarified quantitatively the differences of flow patterns formed by h/d using the frequency analysis. Furthermore, it was become clear that h/d ignored by Baker is very an important factor in this vortex system.
