In the numerical analysis of laminar jet diffusion flames, boundary layer approximation is often applied. Availability of boundary layer approximation is investigated by comparisons among the results with and without boundary layer approximation and experimental results. It is pointed out boundary layer approximation becomes improper for the flames of intense heat release. The reason of the inapplicability of the approximation is due to the fact that the pressure gradient in radial direction is not negligible in the flame.
