Natural convection heat transfer across a layer of water in a cylindrical enclosure has been studied experimentally. Average Nusselt numbers were determined for Rayleigh numbers between 1800 to 1.9x(10)^6,angles of inclination from 0°to 180°, and relatively large aspect ratios (7.6 to 76). For a horizontal layer (?=0°), the results agreed well with previous experimental results. In inclined cavities the Nusselt number behavior showed similar trends to those found for rectangular enclosures, but there are small detailed differences relating to local maxima and minima at fixed Rayleigh numbers and varying angle. Correlations for inclined enclosures for 0°=?=120°were developed for engineering use.
