In this paper, an integrated system for virtual design and performance test of a hydraulic excavator is proposed. The system is composed of four modules, i.e., CAD, static analysis and optimization, dynamic analysis, and draft drawing module. An excavator model is created in CAD module with the Pro/E program, and stress analysis and optimization of the boom is carried out with ANSYS program in static analysis module. The parameters of the boom are changed in the optimization process with stress and deflection boundary condition. In the dynamic analysis, the maximum load capacity is simulated using the DADS program. To model the force interaction between the track roller and track, two experimental results are measured and utilized to estimate the stiffness of the spring. Overall data flow is controlled by the Motif program. The main advantage of the developed system is high adaptability in the initial design process.
