Bolted joints are widely usd for joining materials of mechanical structures. In this paper, effect of bolted joint on response characteristics of structures is examined. First, effect of bolted joint is examined experimentally. The damping ratio and the natural frequency of specimens with some types of bolted joints are measured. Results are compared with those of specimen without bolted joint. It is found that the damping ratio increases and the natural frequency becomes lower when specimen has bolted joint. Next, effect of bolted joints on random vibration of structures is examined theoretically. Standard deviation of acceleration response decreases when specimen has bolted joint.
