In order to clarify the effect of anisotropy on local deformation and stress intensity near crack-tip under complicated stress state, biaxial loading tests have been carried out on isotropic (PSM-1) and anisotropic (LEXAN 9030) polycarbonate materials. Specimens with preprocessed crack in 0 and 45 angles were applied on constant load in Y axis 490N and steeped load 490N-1961N in X axis to achieve various biaxial load ratios 1 : 1-4 : 1. Moreover, specimens with 45 preprocessed crack were set X loading under the conditions of Y free and fixing. Stress intensity factors near crack-tip were investigated under various biaxial loading and setting conditions by using photoelasticity together with caustic method. Stress intensity factor K_I and K_<II> were measured under the above-mentioned conditions, therefore the result of the following was obtained. It is confirmed that under biaxial loading condition, only K_I was not affected by the anisotropy property for crack angle θ=0. For crack angle θ=45,K_I and K_<II> both take effect under two inequitable axial loads and comparatively, only K_I take effect under equal axial loads for isotropic polycarbonate material. Further more, both isochromatic fringe patterns and caustics images are slightly larger when Y axis is free than that when Y axis is fixed for crack angle θ=45. Finally, the value of stress intensity factors K_I and K_<II> are about 20% lower under biaxial load ratio 4 than that under load ratio 2 for anisotropic material. The effect of anisotropy property on stress intensity was confirmed by the presented experimental investigations.
