A phase shifting technique is proposed to analyze closed-fringe interferogram as shown in Fig. 1. This technique requires two interferograms to calculate wrapped phase map, where there is a π/2 phase shift between two interferograms. The method involves applying Fourier transform to each of the fringe patterns to obtain their frequency spectrums. Appropriate filter is then used to remove low frequency and high frequency components which correspond to the background and noise of the fringe patterns respectively. After filtering, two frequency spectrums are transformed back to the spatial domain by inverse Fourier transform and a wrapped phase map is calculated from two real parts of the inversed Fourier transforms. Finally, the wrapped phase data is unwrapped to give a continuous phase map. This paper discusses the principles of the proposed technique and tests its validity on real and computer simulated interferograms
