The starting confined jet flow issuing into a symmetrical sudden expansion plane space is simulated by solving full Navier-Stokes equations with primitive variables. To emphasize effects of expansion ratio H/B, the growth and development processes of vortex roll-up phenomena are visualized using marker particles and related to velocity and pressure fields which are difficult to evaluate experimentally. The interesting features can be summerized : (1) # even just after starting, the pressure field is affected by a confined space except near the exit of the slit ; (2) # for large expansion ratio beyond H/B = 9, the rolling-up behavior of the separated shear layer is not affected by the space if our discussions would be limitted to the longitudinal field within seven times slit width ; (3) # When H/B = 2, the flow is of the plug type and the development of vortex roll-up is suppressed by the boundary layer flow over the confined walls.
