In succession to the previous paper which is concerned with harmonic problems of viscous fluid waves in a coaxial double pipe, the present paper pays attention to the transient aspect. In order to acquire some practical means of analysis, the numerical inversion technique is applied to the Laplace transform solutions of the viscous wave equations. The calculated transient waves exhibit plausible attenuation and dispersion, and well coincide with the analytical approximations otherwise derived for their fronts and tails. This calculus also turns out useful for evaluating boundary layers transitionally growing on the pipe walls after a surge occurs. Finally pulse transmission tests in an actual oil hydraulic double pipe endorse the validity of the method presented here for predicting transient viscous fluid waves in a double pipe.
