In the optimization problem of controlled system with steering mechanism, there exist some features proper to the problem. The typical points are listed below. (1) The angular displacement of the rudder is not a control but one component of state vector. (2) The control is the torque which is applied to the rudder mechanism. (3) The angular displacement of the rudder (one component of the state vector) is limited physically, i.e. the problem belongs to the class of optimization problem with stop mechanism. (4) Final value of the angular displacement of body (another component of state vector) is not specified to some fixed value but must be transferred to one of infinitely multiple values separated by 2π. In this paper, minimum time control of course of ship is discussed as a typical concrete problem of optimal steering, and a synthesizing method of feedback system for optimal steering problem is presented.
