Cycle simulation program on a turbocharged 2-cycle diesel engine was completed with such merits as follows ; (1) Combustion process is simulated with rates of effective combustion calculated from fuel injection rates, using an approximate combustion delay curve which is constant under various running conditions. (2) Heat transfers from gas to walls are estimated by Pflaum's formula modified by heat losses in combustion period. (3) By using two coefficients to estimate the grade of mixing and heat exchaning between gas and air, the gas exchange process can be simulated under all the conditions from complete mixing to complete separating. (4) The interference effect of pressure in exhaust pipes is simulated with the coefficient of pressure propagation delay, by compensating for the errors caused by assuming exhaust pipes as a volume. (5) Using these simulations, the equivalent flow coefficients and equivalent turbine efficiency can be calculated from measured values.
