The identification of parameters in a class of heat exchangers from output data is investigated. The system is assumed to be modeled by a set of partial differential equations which contain unknown parameters linearly. The method of collocation is used to transform the partial differential equations into a discrete system. The unknown parameters are identified using the stochastic approximation method. The principle of this identification technique is demonstrated by an experiment with favourable results for a parallel heat exchanger.
