The behavior of impact waves at the interface of an elastic-viscoelastic bar is analyzed by the Laplace transform method. Further the stress and the strain distributions are obtained in the elastic and viscoelastic bars. In the viscoelastic bar the stress at the wave front dies out exponentially. and when A(=ρc/ρ_0c_0) increases, the attenuation of the stress becomes rapid. This solution is compared with the solutions by the wave-front expansion technique and the finite difference method. In the Maxwell material, the distribution of strains differs from that of stresses.
