This paper presents an inverse analysis method for the identification of plural unknown sound sources in the three-dimensional free sound field using the boundary element method and an optimization technique. In the identification process, the optimal set of parameters related to every sound source is searched alternately by minimizing the square sum of the residuals between the measured and computed sound pressures in the sound field. All the sound source locations and vibration velocities are identified in the iteration of the calculation process. In the identification, the importance of each observed information is evaluated and a weighted objective function is used according to the importance to improve the accuracy of the identification. Numerical simulations are carried out to discuss the algorithm of the calculation and experiments are carried out to evaluate the proposed method. The usefulness of the present method is finally confirmed.
