About 10 years ago, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. developed the first Machinery Health Monitoring System based on vibration measurement. The purpose of this system was to improve the reliability and availability of the nuclear power plant. Therefore, this system was continuously monitoring vibration of the total 62 rotating machines in the plant. Also, this system has a capability of the automatic diagnosis function when the alarm happened. This automatic diagnosis function was base on the causal matrix. Since this first diagnosis system product was developed, we developed 10 systems and delivered them. Of course, the automatic diagnosis function has been improved according to the improvement of the software such as the expert system and hardware such as EWS. This paper introduces the latest Machinery Health Monitoring system for the combined power plants Recently, many combined power plants have been constructed or are being constructed in order to satisfy the various needs of electrical power generation. These combined power plants use jointly gas turbine generator systems and steam turbine generator systems. Therefore, the development of vibration diagnostic system for gas turbines used in the combined power plants is necessary in addition to the ones for the steam turbines which was developed a few years ago. This report presents a summary of the diagnostic systems for combined power plants which can monitor the vibration of the steam turbines and the gas turbines, and also detect plant failures and diagnose the cause of these failures at an early stage of the failure.
