The flexural rigidity of handmade kraft paper was measured, using the vibrating reed method. EI was used for the flexural rigidity in this paper, where E is Young's modulus and I is moment of inertia. The validity of this method was checked by carrying out measurements with a phosphor bronze, and satisfactory results were obtained. The results obtained for the handmade kraft paper are as follows: (1) Thickness and density are uncertain even in the same specimen, because of heterogeneity of paper. Therefore, it is desirable to use the relations including the thickness and the density when Young's modulus or flexural rigidity is required, as described below: (2) It is desirable to calculate the Young's modulus from the relation b vs.ν^2W/d^3 when ν is measured by fixing l and varying b, where b is the width, ν is the resonant freqency, W is the weight, d is the thickness, and l is the length, of the specimen. (3) When ν is measured by fixing b and l, it is desirable to calculate the Young's modulus from the relation d^3 vs.ν^2W. (4) When ν is measured by fixing b and varying l, it is desirable to calculate the flexural rigidity from the relation 1/l^3 vs.ν^2W.
