The phenomenon of exhaustion (fatigue) is studied mostly in Hygiene, Physiology and Industrial Medicine, but little in Obstetrics, Labor is, as is well known, subject to a considerable amount of exhaustion, although it belongs to a physiological phenomenon. In the present study the exhaustion has been investigated from the view point of the phenomenon accompanying labor. The results obtained are as follows : 1) Method of experiment : Donaggio's method, modified by Sato. 2) Materials of experiment : Urines of women in childbirth hospitalized in our clinic. 3) Results obtained : 1. Labors of longer duration showed higher Donaggio value than those of shorter ones. 2. Labors with larger babies showed higher Donaggio value than those with smaller ones. 3. Labors with larger loss of blood showed higher Donaggio value than those with less blood loss. 4) In the urines of women in childbirth the amount of creatitine is quantitatively proportional to the Donaggio value, but not the amount of protein. 5) Accordingly, the Donaggio value of women in childbirth generally corresponds with the clinical prognosis of the labor. In view of the fact that the labor accompanies, as has been shown in the above experiment, a considerable amount of exhaustion, women in childbirth must be looked after as carefully as possible.
