A stochastic approach is presented to investigate the fluctuation effects inoptical bistability. We take the modulation of the atomic transition frequencyinduced by collisions as a stochastic fluctuation. In the good cavity limit theoptical bistability is enhanced by the frequency modulation tnnder some conditions, while it is suppressed in the bad cavity limit.
