Intrinsic Pinning of the Josephson Vortex in a Two-Dimensional Superconductor Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_<8+δ> Studied via the Conversion of Ultrasonic to Electromagnetic Waves

Through the uneastnrenaent of tire mutttal conversion betxveen trltrasonic waves (UW) andelectronaagnetic waves via pinning of' the vortex to the lattice, the pinning of' the vortex inBi3SrzCaCuzOg;,5 has been investigated. The interaction with the longitudinal UW is drauaaatically enhanced due to the intrinsic pinning of the Josephson-like vortex, when the ttaagnetic fieldis applied nearly parallel to the stmpercondtmcting plane, fornaing a sharp twin-peak-like structure,Based on the angle dependence, we argue that there is a crossover f'rom intrinsic pinzaing to pan-cake pinning. The tenaperature and tnagnetic field intensity dependence of the intrinsic pinningis discussed as well as the saznple deperrdence with regard to the level of oxygen-doping. Thetransverse UW with polarization paxrallel to the superconducting plane is fotrnd not to interactwith the vortex via intrinsic pinning, ?xlthough it can cotrple via the pancake vortex.
