The techniqtre of time resolved unicrowave dielectric absorption has been used to study theexcited triplet states formed by the laser flash photolysis. The details of the experirnentalmethod and apparatus are discussed, The triplet state lifetimes and triplet state dipole unornentsof fluorenone and its derivatives are reported. The triplet state lifetime of fltrorenone agrees withthat obtained by optical absorption. The lifetime rneasuretaaents with argon purging and withair equilibrated soltrtion confirrn the formation of triplet states. A naarked increase in the tripletstate dipole rnoment of fluorenone and its derivatives is observed and implies that their lowesttriplet state is of (7T, m") in natture,
