The inverse giant rnagnetoresistance (IVIR) efl'ect for current in plane (CIP) and current perpendicular to jclane (CPP) georaaetries is sttrdied by trsing a setniclassical approach. Interestingly,we find that, besides that the inverse/norrnatl IVIR C2111 occur iua 1.coth CIP and CPP cases, it is alsopossible that the inverse [NIR effect ajcpearrs only' ira one of thetaa. XX'e arttribute this phenoraaenonto the difl'erent roles of interfatce ?tnd 1.ctrJk scatterirrgs in these txvo cases: the interface scatteringus tnore unaportant for CIP-IVIR than for CPP-IVIR xvhile the btrlk scattering is the opposite.
