The ground state properties and phase diagr;rum of bilayer Heisenberg rnodel on the squarelattice are sttudied in a xvide range of pararneter space of intralayer exchange cotrplings, assut-n-ing an antif'erronaagnetic coupling between constittrent layers. In the classical limit, the modelexhibits three phases: two of these are ordered phases specified by the ordering wave vectors(m, m; rr) and (O, O; rc), where the third cornponent of each indecates the antil'errornagnetic orien-tation between layers, and another one is "canted" phase, stal.cilized by cornpeting interactions. The effects of qtrantuna fltrcttrations in the model xvith S :: 172 have been explored in ternasof dimer rnean-field theory, exact diagonaJization of 2'v/i x 2'l x 2 clusters, and higher-orderperturbation expansions abovrt the interlayer dimer lirnit.
