The qtrasi-two-dirnensional nonlinear equations ['or drift stnd Rossby vortices have some stationary mtultipole solutions, and especially the dipole vortex solution is called modon. Thesesoltrt,ions are valid only in the lowest order where the fluid velocity has a stream function. Inorder to investigate features of the multipole solutions naore acctrrately, the effect of the higherorder terms, for example the polarization drif't in a plasnaa or the Coriolis force in a rotatingplanet, needs to be considered. It is shoxvn that the higher order analysis throtrgh a new techniqtre based on a transformartion of' v?rriables is IIILICII easier than a straightforward iteration.The solutions in this analysis are obtained l.cy inverse transfornaation to the originsrl coordin?rtes,where the profiles of potentials ?tre distorted by the ef['ects of' higher order ternas.
