Vibrational transition processes of Hz molecule in the electronic ground state by Hatom impact are investigated theoretically by solving vibrational close coupling equa-Lions under the rotational IOS approximation. Integrated cross sections for non-reac-live vibrational transitions from the initial vi brational states within 0< v< 4 to all theenergetically accessible final vibrational states are calculated at the impact energybelow the dissociation energy of H. molecule. The cross sections for vibrational multi-pie quantum transitions have the same order of magnitude as the cross section for asingle quantum transition. It is confirmed that the multi-quantum vibrational transi-tions proceed step by step through the vibrational matrix elements V,.... of interac-tion potential. It is found that a dip part of the vibrational matrix elements inducesvibrational transitions and a positive part makes little effect to these transitions.
