On the basis of the phenomenological model due to Lawrence and Doniach forlayered superconductors, we derive a formalism for the critical temperature T. in rela-tion with the numbers of layers. We show that tlte critical temperature T. of a systemcomposed of n identical layers is the same as that of each layer, irrespective of thenumber n. We also apply our formalism to a birrary periodic layered structure whoseunit cell consists of two kinds of superconducting layers. When the carrier number ofeach layer is independent of structure, the critical temperature T. of the whole systemincreases monotonically with the number of layers having higher T.. When the carriernumber depends on structure, T. does not necessarily show a monotonic behaviour. We discuss our numerical results in comparison with the experimental data on somehigh-7'. superconductors such as thallium and bismuth families. We make a sugges-tion to achieve a higher T..
