Excitation energy spectrum of two-dimensional electrons in a strong magnetic fieldis investigated by diagonalization of the Hamiltonian for finite systems. Effects of mix-ing of the higher Landau levels and effects of finite extent of the electron wave func-Lion perpendicular to the two-dimensional plane are considered. The results are com-pared with the experiments on GaAs-AlGaAs heterostructure at v = 1 /3 and v = 2 /3,where v is the filling factor of the Landau levels.
