Nuclear Dipolar Relaxation in Four-Spin-1/2 Tetrahedral Group

The relaxation time T.. of the dipolar energy of proton spins in four-spin-1/2tetrahedral group of NH.-ton has been compared with the relaxation time T..measured in the rotating frame. We have found that T.. is larger than T.. whencta.r.>>1 and 7H.r.<<l, which is different from the relation T..<T., whenco.r.<<], where cog is the Larrnor frequency of proton spins in the Iaboratryframe, H. the local dipolar field and r. the correlation time. An expression ofr?. ttas t>een derived to explain the relation r..>r... l'he relation rg.>r..may be understood by considering the inter-molecular interaction among XI-[4-tons and a three-spin system which is a basic u?ait for the spin-lattice relaxationof dipolar energy. We have also found, in contradiction to the expected relation(T..)....<(7'j.)...., that the minimum value of T.., (T..)..j., is larger than that ofT., (7'.,)...., in some.ammonium salts. Several possible explanations of therelation (7'..)....>(7'..)-j. have been given.
