Lattice Vibrations and Debye Temperatures of Transition Metals

The frequency-wave vector dispersion relations for the normal modes ofvibration in the major symmetry directions of transition metals chromium andtantalum have been computed on the basis of modified non-central force model ofBehari and Tripathi which takes into account Clark et at. type angular forces andSharma and Joshi type volume forces. The results show a satisfactory agreementwith the curves obtained from recent coherent inelastic neutron scattering experi-ments. Blackmann's root sampling teclmique for a discrete subdivision in thereciprocal space is used to determine the frequency spectra. The calculatedfrequency spectra have been incorporated in the study for the computations ofspecific heats and equivalent Debye-temperatures of these metals. The resultsshow a reasonably satisfactory agreement with experiments.
