Nonlinear Alfv<Sn waves in a cold plasma in the presence of effective electron-ion collisions are investigated by means of a nonlinear perturbation method. Tothe lowest order of perturbation, it is found that the system of equations forthe Alfv<Sn waves can be reduced to the following simple dispersive-dissipativeequation for f (which is proportional to perturbed part of normalized density) :'-'ttaf' " -/Z,4 '4 -v if" -X- f [' f'cl:X =0,8r 2 8< 8: 8:c8C J-., Jwhere 4 and r are, respectively, stretched space and time coordinates, while jt.and v denote, respectively, dispersion and dissipation parameters. It is shown thatthis equation has solution representing either oscillatory (dispersion-dominantcase) or monotonous (dissipation-dominant case) Alfv<Sn shock waves.
