The dynamical theory of electron diffraction is applied to the interpretation of the electron microscopic images of a crystal lattice containing a stacking fault and its moire pattern which is formed by the super-position of a crystal with a stacking fault upon a crystal without any stacking fault. Numerical calculations are carried out for several cases. The theory predicts that the nature of stacking fault, i.e. intrinsic and extrinsic, can be known from the contrasts of the image.
