Moire patterns produced by passing diffuse light from uniformly illuminated background through two net or gauze screens of suitable mesh size, set face-parallel, one behind the other with a space in between, are tinged with some lustre which is more or less vitreous or slightly metallic. A number of results obtained by visual observation and photographing show that this is a typical case in which the so-called false stereoscopic effect gives rise to the impression of gloss.
