Polarization Reversal and Ferroelectric Domain Structure Observed in Electroded Cesium Dihydrogen Phosphate Crystals Using an X-Ray Anomalous Dispersion Effect

We have carried out an X-ray intensity uaaeastrrement and X-ray topography on electrodedb plates of ferroelectric cesium dihydrogen phosphate, CSH2PO4 (CDP), using a synchrotronradiation with a wax'elength of 2.482 A above the Cs L3-absorption edge. We have fotrnd thatintegrated intensities #(150) and #(150) show an anomalously large breakdown of Friedel's law,#(150)/#(150) : 10.4 at l25K, and display a ferroelectric hysteresis loop. The hysteresis loopdetertaaines that spontaneous polarization is antiparallel to the b axes set in both ferroelectriccrystal structtrres related by inx'ersions. Tlae (150) diffraction topography shows that a singledomain ttrrns into a larnellar domain strtrcttrre xvithotrt fractal aspects after short-circuiting theb plate. The atomic displacement associated with polarization reversal is shown in a crystalstructure model of 180' domains observed in the X-ray topograph.
