Dichroism in Core Photoelectron Diffraction Spectra of Si(001)and Dependence on the Photon Polarization

• Photoelectron diffraction patterns of 81 2p core photoelectrons from 81(001) excited by photonsof circular, elliptical and linear polarizations are calculated and conapared with sorne experimental results. In accordance with the symnaetry of the 81(001) sample, relations are derived forthe total intensity, the dichroism, and the spin polarization on the azinauthal angle. These relations on one hand describe the observed different peak positions in the patterns f'or right andleft circularly polarized radiation, and on the other hand provide information on the degree ofpolarization of the light.
