Mechanism of Paramagnetic Meissner Effect in High-Temperature Superconductors

A possible naechanism of paramagnetic IlVIeissner elect observed in some high-temperatvmresuperconductors is proposed. It is shoxvn that a paramagnetic Meissner current flows if thereexists a large qtrasi-particle density of states arotrnd zero energy in the energy gap. This suggeststhat the paramaxgnetic lVIeissner effect is associated with a zero-bias conductance peak which hasoften been observed in the ttrnne[ing experitnents of high-ternperature superconductors. Theparanaagnetic efl'ect caused by the zero-energy excitations is consistent xvith the experiments.
