The optical and magneto-optical properties of' carbon nanotube bundles have been sttmcliedtheoretically. The dielectric and unagneto-dielectric functions in the long w?rvelength linait ?rrecalculated from the gradient approxitnation. A prouninent 'm-p[asrnon structure at x6 -7 eV isidentified in the electron-energy-loss spectruuaa. The 77' plasmon also reveals itself in the re-flectance spectrtrrn as a weak btrt sharp plasmon edge at N6 -7 eV. The detailed optical spectradepend on the polarization direction of the incident light, the nanotube structure (stmch as ra-dirts, chiral angle, and nuunber of slaells), and the magnetic flvtx through nanotubes. In general, carbon nanotube bundles would maintain the m-pJasnaon frequency at x6 -7 eV. This is rnainly 2)consequence of the trniqtre 'm-band strttcture of the graphitelike systern. The magnetoreflectancespectra would exhibit a strongly periodical oscillation during the variation of' tnagnetic flux.
