Magnetic-Field-Induced Metal-Insulator Transition in Pr_<0.7>Ca_<0.3>MnO_3

A field-induced insulator-metal ([-M) transition in Prp.7Ca0.3Mn03 has been studied withneutron diffraction experiments. Over the whole ternjcerature range, the resistivity of'Prg.7Cag.3lVInO3 shows insulating behavior at zero field, but exhibits an I-M transition at arottnd4.0 T at 5 K, It has been established that an applied field enforces a ferrornagnetic spin alignmentand drives Prg.7Cag.3MnO3 to a metallic state by actuating the double exchange mechanism anddestroying the charge ordering. This I-M transition at 5 K is accompanied with a large hysteresis.By contrast, in the field dependezuce at 50 K, antiferrotnagnetic and charge-order componentsare gradually recovered below 2.0 T in a field-decreasing process. Furthermore, a reentrant I-M-Itratasition has been observed in the ternperattrre dependence at 2.5 T.
