The list of possible superconducting states with odd parity for Sr3RuO,j contains nonunitaryphases. These phases have gapless qtrasi-particle excitations which could explain the large resid-ual density of states observed experirnentally in the strpercondtmcting phase. An energy analysisis performed, which shows that a special mechanism is needed in addition to weak couplingin order to stabilize the nonunitary phase. Variotrs experiments which may provide additionalinformation on the trnustral properties of the superconducting phase are discussed.
