In this paper, modified Rusanov's tltird order difference scheme for quasilinearhyperbolic system of partial differeuatial equation ina non-conservative form has beenpresented. The me1.hod is then applied to study the unsteady motion of convergingcylindrical shock waves in radiation gas dynamics, It is concluded t1?at a cylindricalshock wave in a radiating gas increases in strengtla as it is propagating towards theaxis. It is also observed that the effect of radiation laeat transfer is to decrease tlaegrowth rate of shock strength when it is propagating towards the axis. Further, it isconcluded that the effect of radiation heat transfcr is to delay the shock convergencewith axis and thus increase the convergence ti?ne. In the process the detailedbehaviour near the axis at the time of shock coalescence is studied. The effects ofvarious controlling parameters on the numerical results are also studied.
