The structures of the commensurate phase Ill and IV of PotassiumTetrachlorocobaltate was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffractometry at roomtemperature and 134 K, respectively. The room-temperature structure is the same asthe orthorhombic modification determined by Vermin, Verschoor and IJdo (ActaCrystallogr. B32 (1976) 3325). The symmetry lowering with the phase transition at142 K is induced by a rotation of one kind of the Coal. tetrahedra, which have ratherlarge thermal pararneters at room temperature, about the c-axis with accompanying atranslation along the *-axis.[structure analysis, commensurate phase, K.CoC1., lock-in transition, X-ray ]l diffraction, modulated structurel
